Timelessness is a quality that many strive for in photography. We may aim to make images that can tell a story, yet transcend time in hopes that our work lasts longer than ourselves. A person that I love making work that feels effortlessly timeless with is Avery. Their style is always tasteful and the way they carry themselves is elegant and graceful.
We had a chance to shoot together earlier this year, right before the pandemic hit. I chose Olympic Sculpture Park near downtown Seattle as our location for its sharp, clean lines, and moody blue and silver colors. We used outfits that were primarily monochromatic in order to create contrast with the rich color tones of our location, and add a sense of timelessness to our images.
One more dimension that added to the timelessness of our images was my use of a Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 SL II S, a lens suited for vintage rendering akin to 50mm Nikon lenses from before aspherical glass designs were popular, giving a soft glow, and smooth out of focus backgrounds.
Images here were created with a Leica M10-P, Leica MP (with Ilford HP5), and Lumix S1 with the Leica 35mm 1.4 Summilux-M ASPH FLE, Leica 90mm APO Summicron-SL, and Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 SL II S:
