Maybe I was inspired by the Weeknd’s desert-themed album, After Hours, after listening to it for five months straight during COVID-19 lockdown, but I’ve now found myself permanently relocated to Phoenix, Arizona-- the friendliest desert in the Southwest.
I’ve left the dreary, grey Seattle skyline, littered with Amazon skyscrapers and storm clouds for flat, yellow desert fields with the occasional Saguaro cactus. As such, not only has my environment changed dramatically, but the color palette of daily life and subsequently, my photography. I feel as if my eyes are seeing in monochrome, with tones being primarily yellow and orange everywhere I look.
Life in the Southwest is a huge departure from the Pacific Northwest, but I love the golden light that every early evening brings, and the possibility of new adventures at every weekend road trip.
